Tan Ai Khim
Tan Ai Khim is a multi-disciplinary artist, design, educator and trainer. She had won the hearts of Singaporeans with her “OrchidStar” logo for NDP 2012. Her artistic interest lies in “relationships” and “emotions”. There are multiple levels of emotional aspect in a relationship. And she feels that art can interpret the complexity and fragility of the both.
As leisure but experimental artist designer, Miss Tan Ai Khim dabbles with a variety of art-craft. She explores materials to create artworks. She enjoys creating art as it fills pockets of time. Art to her also means an emotional companion where she relates mental conditions with her art works.
Although a leisure artist, she will join artistic tournaments and exhibitions to challenge her boundaries. The recent win was where her ‘OrchidStar’ logo was selected to represent Singapore’s 47th Birthday during the National Day Parade in 2012.
Coming from a Visual Communication background and furthered her studies in Fine Arts had open up horizons of fluidity of how art can be so very ductile: the irony of a rule of no rules, the compromise of territory and space.
Art Synopsis – I will grant your wish – if you (get) hook on me
For Invisible Whole, Ai Khim has decided to question about who is there to grant our wishes? “I will grant your wish – if you (get) hook on me” is the title of the artwork. What is your wish about? Who will make your wish come true? Is there a supreme being that will do the job? A genie? A friend? What about your parents? Ancestors? Belief? Who do you go to in times like this? Who do you call out and place your wish to? Is there a name? What is the name?
I would like to see in this interactive artwork to WHO will you place your wish to and will it come true for you.
